Sharing Worlds: A Novel

$4.99

An inspiring and uplifting historical novel based on real events about a young woman’s journey to escape Scotland and carve out an independent life for herself in Mexico during the rebellious 1960s.

It is 1968 in the heart of Scotland, 21 year old Flora graduates from university with a science degree, a rarity for a woman at that time. She aspires to have a career just like her four brothers, while her family expects her to marry her boyfriend Stuart and become a housewife, giving up her dreams to conform to prevailing traditions. However around the world the 60s youth revolution is taking place and Flora yearns to carve out her own independent path. So, she secretly plans an escape and abruptly announces to her family that she will travel to the other side of the world to Mexico. Her family worries for her, as it’s not common for a woman to travel alone, especially to one of the world's most dangerous countries. Following a half-formed dream Flora immediately becomes immersed in a very different life, full of sunshine, music and the beauty and colour of Mexico's diverse cultural heritage. Completing a study of the local language she finds a job that opens up exciting new opportunities ... and love interests. Whilst working as a journalist on the local English language newspaper, Flora finds herself in the midst of exciting and dangerous events but despite some ensuing chaos she continues to love Mexico and begins to develop feelings for one of her colleagues, Angel. Meanwhile Flora's family tries to convince her to return home and marry Stuart, drawing her further into a series of conflicts as she determines to maintain her increasingly compelling new career.
